Spray Log Questions and Answers

One of you e-mailed us with a comprehensive list of quesitons about the Spray Log.  We thought that these well thought out questions would be on a lot of people's minds!

Question about the spray diary report. Can this be printed for individual blocks rather than all of the vineyard at once?  We have 30-40 blocks on some vineyards and probably over 200 in the region so we look at the diary for each block individually.

Answer is yes.  One of the in-built reports will allow you to view each block and either print or send to MetWatch for viewing in relation to infection events.

Also on this report there is room for withholding periods and earliest harvest. Are these filled in automatically if the WP information is in the database? Completing WP and earliest harvest info is a pain for me at harvest.  The cost reports give a total for each block but we are interested in the cost per ha of   our vineyards. Likewise the total materials used per block is useful, but can we see the materials used per ha? These are needed for the IWP programme that all of our vineyards participate in and also our own environmental management objectives.

The standard reports cover most needs, for most growers. However if you have specific reports these can be supplied on a cost recovery basis (i.e. tell us what you need and we'll quote on it).  It is important to note that the reports are separate to Spray Log. If you have specific requirements, we don't need to modify the main system to meet your needs. This reduces the cost to you and reduces the complexity for us. The SprayLog data model is very flexible and will cope with all of the requests mentioned above.

How easy are these reports to incorporate in the spray diary? Can the reports deliver the kilograms per ha of active ingredient say for Sulphur and Copper. Again, these are measurement criteria for the IWP programme.

The database structure is extremely flexible and will be able to calculate ai/ha.   However some customisation would be required.

I see on your web site there is an example of the spray diary interface. It has check  boxes for planned vs actual applications. What is the procedure if a planned application
does not go ahead or is incomplete for say weather or mechanical reasons and has to be
completed on another day?

You can either delete the entry or change the date. Also materials and blocks can be edited to fit what actually happened and a new spray plan can be entered for the remaning blocks/vineyards.

Something else that I remember from earlier versions of Spray Diary is that there is a huge list of chemicals available. I know that it can be narrowed down. What I am wondering is can it be customised by the user so that only the chemicals in use this season appear as options but not other chemicals that we would want to retain in the list? For example this season Topas may be the DMI fungicide that we use, but we don't want to delete Systhane or Alto from the list in case we use those next season. However when we apply a DMI this season we only want Topas to appear as an option. Is that sort of customisation possible?

Yes. SprayLog allows you to keep a short list of things that you use.  These are taken from the BIG list. If you need to add items to the list its just a matter of a few clicks to add to the local list.

On the web site you mention Spray View as a means to analyze spray application data for a region. Can you explain how this might work in our situation? We have 6 vineyards with individual computers and they would fill in their own spray diaries. The regional
supervisor and myself may want to analyze the information but have no real need to enter spray diary data. How is the data from the individual computers brought together with Spray View?

SprayLog keeps very detailed records for individual orchards. This is OK for a single vineyard manager but in very large operations you may need an overview of how things are going. SprayView fills this need.  Growers with SprayLog, transfer records via disk   [shortly though email] to SprayView for analysis. Note that some of the detail is lost but the key information transfers.
