IntroductionThe symposium will be hosted by the Research Station Agroscope Changins-Wädenswil and held in Einsiedeln, Switzerland, from 1 to 5 July 2007 under the auspices of the International Society for Horticultural Science. The venue of the meeting will be the SJBZ guesthouse (Swiss Youth and Education Centre), pleasantly located at about 1000 m altitude between the Lake Sihlsee and the centre of Einsiedeln with its famous monastery, scenic views and dominant pilgrimage church. Arrival and welcome reception will be on Sunday, 1 July 2007 and the program will start on the morning of 2 July going through to the afternoon of 5 July 2007. We will have a conference barbecue and two afternoon tours included – a guided visit to the Einsiedeln monastery including the famous library and a guided tour to the Research Station ACW in Wädenswil including wine tasting and apple degustation. We would like to stimulate an atmosphere where people get together easily and besides the talks have enough time for relaxed discussion, which will easily be possible at our venue.
Scientific scopeThe scientific topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
Call for papersWe are planning to provide everybody with the opportunity to give an oral presentation. Since time slots for contributed oral papers are of course limited, we will therefore have a category called "Poster talks." That means those papers are in principal presented as posters throughout the meeting but there will be a session in the auditory with a time slot of 5 minutes including discussion for each person who wishes to show the main results there with a maximum of 5 slides too. A third category will be traditional "Simple Posters" without any oral presentation. Below you will find the guidelines for the different categories of presentations. Guidelines for Submission of AbstractsAll presentations will be in English as the only conference language. Abstracts must be submitted by e-mail to joerg.samietz@acw.admin.ch as an attached file in MS Word (.doc) following the guidelines below (deadline 23 February 2007). Please indicate 'Abstract Submission' in the Subject line of your e-mail. The person presenting the communication should be registered before submission of the abstract (attached registration form with preliminary title if possible).
Guidelines for Oral papersEach participant can present a maximum of two communications as senior author, but only one will be considered for oral papers. Presentations will be accepted only through electronic files in MS PowerPoint95 or later versions of the software. Since unexpected errors may occur during the final presentation, computer support will be provided at the beginning of the meeting to check its compatibility. Bring your files ready on USB memory stick or burned on CD-ROM (finish or finalise the CD in order to be compatible with any CD-drive). Please indicate if you might need internet connection for you presentation. Guidelines for Poster talksIn addition to the poster presented throughout the meeting (see Guidelines for Simple Posters below), the author will be given 5 minutes time in the auditory including discussion to show the main results there with a maximum of 5 slides of a PowerPoint presentation. For format and file guidelines of the presentation see above. Guidelines for Simple PostersIn principal we would not like to limit to the number of posters that an author can present. Posters should have a maximum size of A0, i.e. approx. 90 x 120 cm, portrait. It is recommended to use one complete sheet, rather than multiple sheets for its creation in situ. At the top of your poster include the title, author(s) names and affiliations (organisation, city and country). We suggest the poster to have title letter at least 2.5 cm high. Lettering for the author’s name and affiliations may be smaller. Including a photograph of the presenting author helps participants to identify the person to talk during the meetings. The smallest lettering on the poster should be no less than 10 mm high. Illustrations should be visible from a 1m viewing distance. We suggest authors bringing at least 20 small copies of your poster to give to interested participants. Guidelines for Submission of Manuscripts for Acta HorticulturaeEach actively participating author is asked to submit full manuscripts for peer-review at the conference. Manuscripts will be published post-conference by the ISHS in Acta Horticulturae. The manuscripts cannot be longer than 8 printed pages in Acta Horticulturae! For publication guidelines in Acta Horticulturae, please follow instructions in: www.ishs.org/acta/. Each participant paying the registration fee (except accompanying persons and students) will receive a free copy of the proceedings.

Accommodation and reservationsWe are pleased to offer reasonable rates for simple yet proper accommodation (no TV, but private phone) at our meeting venue including half board meals. Since registration will include the 4 lunches, this means once you decide for staying together with us at the venue, all meals will already be covered (see attached Registration form for room rates). Participants will make the reservation with the registration form but will pay for the rooms themselves at the venue hotel desk (Credit card payment available: Mastercard, VISA). Euro prices given in the registration form for the accommodation are approximate and for information only. Daily exchange rates will apply when you pay in Swiss franks (CHF) at departure to the hotel! Note that rooms at the venue are limited in the different categories. Therefore reservation at the venue will be processed "first come first served" in order of reception of the registration forms (to hands J. Samietz by FAX or e-mailed PDF with signature or paper mail; contact information at the end of this message). Room reservation will be cancelled in favour of a waiting list if the payment for registration does not arrive until the early registration payment deadline. External hotel accommodation has to be organised by the participant who wishes for oneself. Please indicate your preference on the registration form. There are several hotels in walking distance near the famous monastery and pilgrimage church of Einsiedeln. All of the following hotels in CH-8840 Einsiedeln are located around or near the Klosterplatz (the square in front of the monastery) about a 10 minutes walk from the symposium venue.
Travelling to EinsiedelnFrom international destinations you fly into Zurich airport and you will reach Einsiedeln in a bit more than an hour with trains going about every 30 minutes. The train connection from Zurich main station takes only about 45 minutes. From the airport you go by S-Bahn (S2 direction Zurich main station, Ziegelbrücke) with switching trains only in Wädenswil (to S13), or switching in Zurich main station (to InterRegio train) and then Wädenswil (to S13). On Sunday afternoon we will organise a shuttle bus from the Einsiedeln train station to the symposium venue SJBZ. Otherwise you could walk about 20 minutes (shortest walk: Eisenbahnstrasse, straight, along the monastery wall and cemetery until Friedhof bus stop, see below), you could take the local Post bus ("Postauto" direction Unteriberg or Willerzell, get off the bus at the Friedhof stop, cross the road and look for the sign to SJBZ), or you could take a TAXI. Arriving by car follow the signs for Einsiedeln until you reach the light signal between Biberbrugg and Einsiedeln. There go straight (not right!) following the sign towards "Einsiedeln-Kloster" to the Einsiedeln turn off. Turn right and after approximately 1 km, just before the cemetery parking to your left, look on the right for the "SJBZ" sign into "Licolnweg". Drive past the "Lincoln" restaurant and after 100 m you reach the SJBZ parking lot.
