Climate
February is high summer in
New Zealand. The climate is a maritime one and in February the average daytime
temperature is 24oC (77oF) dropping to 16oC (62oF)
overnight. The sun is very intense and sunscreen and a hat or cap will be
required. There may be some rain showers so a light rainproof jacket or folding
umbrella should also be brought.
Electricity
The standard voltage of
supply in New Zealand is 230 volts, 50 hertz. Most hotels and motels provide
100 volt A.C. sockets (rated at 20 watts) for electric razors only.
Goods and
Services Tax
Goods and services sold in
New Zealand are subject to a 12.5% Goods and Services Tax (GST). Retail
suppliers are required to show the GST-inclusive price on goods and services,
and must clearly state if the tax is not included in the advertised price.
GST cannot be claimed back on purchases when leaving New Zealand. However,
depending on the retailer, some goods can be purchased on a GST-exclusive basis
at the point of purchase, where it can be demonstrated that the items are
leaving the country. The retailer is required to courier the items to the
airport for you to collect on departure.
Laptops
You will need an RJ45 type
plug to be able to connect your modem into a telephone socket in New Zealand,
and an adaptor with a flat, angled two or three-point power plug to connect to
the power supply.
Time
New Zealand time is 12 hours
ahead of GMT.
Passport and
Visas
A current passport is
required for entry to New Zealand. Please check your visa and other
requirements with your travel agent or airline.

Getting to Rotorua From Auckland
Most people traveling to New Zealand from overseas will arrive in Auckland.
Getting from Auckland to Rotorua is simple! Rotorua is about three hours drive, or a one hour flight from Auckland.
Delegates participating in the pre-Symposium tour will arrive at the conference
hotel on the afternoon of Monday 20 February. Other delegates will be required
to make their own transport arrangements to the Park Heritage Hotel in Rotorua. After the Symposium, all delegates will need to make their own travel
arrangements from Rotorua, for example to Auckland airport for an international
departure.

Fly from Auckland to Rotorua
You can fly from Auckland to Rotorua. There are a number of airlines
that make this trip including Air New Zealand.
